why do you think its important to help others, for example through community service???

I think it is (1) the right thing to do; (2) the Bible says "As you sow, so shall you reap" so if you do things to help others and give to those who are in need and try to make people feel better when they're sad or lonely, the same will come back to you. Cast your bread (or service) on the water and it will come back buttered toast.
Reply:I have many reasons, but in a nutshell it helps me learn to be more selfless and caring toward others- helping other people helps my lifestyle to be more productive and loving.
Reply:to make us realise how fortunate we are compare to others who really need our help and care.
If we are able, we should always try within our very best to help out those who really need our help
