Have any of you ever lived on a commune?

I just visited an independent community for my Survey of American Culture class. They are almost completely self sufficient. It is 100 people living for the good of the group. I was very surprised how their system of life was so organized. So, has anyone ever lived on a commune, or been to one?

Yes, but often the rules weed you out for all the wrong reasons. Like, some want everyone to be happily married. Others yet want you to be religously conformed to their beliefs and not often are their elections for new leaders. Not very democratic and thus of concern to the IRS. If its a non-profit group who secretly profits?
Reply:Sort of. I lived out west for a couple of years and everyone cooperated in the poor part of town that was my home. We'd have these street BBQ's and everyone was in every-ones houses and apartments all the time. There wasn't any stealing, we all helped each other; it was pretty cool now that I think back on it. Long time gone by now though. I'm truly vested in capitalism, but I wonder?
Reply:No, but I've been very interested. Not in a cult type of way, but in a group that actually works together for the good of eachother and the group as a whole. It seems like there would be a fine line to walk, though.
