Do you think some of the community guidelines are hypocritical (see details)?

The community guidelines say it's against the rules to ask "do you like steak?".

However, there's a 'polls and surveys' section here, and I think "do you like steak?" is a perfect example of a poll and surveys type question.

Do you think some of the community guidelines are hypocritical (see details)?
Yes, they do seem that way sometimes. There has been some conversation about some of the gray areas (like this) in the forum. The Yahoo Answers team has confirmed that a question like this would be acceptable within community guidelines IF it is wi/ polls %26amp; surveys. Seems a bit confusing, and I'm not sure that I completely get why chatting is so offensive. It may add very little value to site, but that's certainly different from the racial slurs that go on here. It also seems hypocritical %26amp; illogical to have the same penalties for all types of violations.
Reply:i agree. its about the word play.

but wait, you actually read the community guidelines?
Reply:They sure are - but guidelines are there for a reason I guess.
Reply:no i just don't think it is monitered as closely as we would like!

but if they had someone monitering i bet it wouldn't happen!
Reply:YES, but I cannot change you

Yahoo are listen
Reply:Yes its hypocritical, but most guidelines are a little.
Reply:if you think about it some more, Polls and surveys are Chatty by definition. your question "do you like steak" would probably be ignored there for the simple fact that *that* category is there more than likely as a "lightning rod" for any and all chatty questions.

i mean, no matter what rules you set up, someone is going to break them (and some newbies don't know any better) so why not contain the problem in one category?
Reply:It doesn't look hypocritical to me. You know Y! Answers has already established these guidelines and will add more or modify them at any given time.
