I got my dog from a shelter

Yes, dogs and cats should be spayed to prevent some diseases and over population.

If there was a big change in my life, I would keep my pets no matter what. I made a commitment to them when I got them, so they deserve to stay with me.

Pet overpopulation is where there are so many pets in animal shelters that thousands (millions?) have to be put to sleep each year because they can't get a home.

Pets should go to the vet at least 4 times a year, if not more. They of course have to go when they are injured but they also need checkups and teeth cleaning etc.

My shelter is in a town right by mine. It is called Friends For Life Animal Sancuary and is only 25min away of traffic is in my favor.

Please answer the following questions honestly and completely.

1.If you currently have a pet how did you obtain it? If you currently do not have a pet or you wanted get another one, where would you go to get one? I got my two cats from the SPCA (shelter) If I got another pet I'd also get it from the shelter. If I was getting a rodent/reptile/unusual pet I'd either go to the pet store or buy them off somebody.

2.Do you think it is important that dogs and cats are spayed or neutered? Why or why not? Well in my family it is sort of important because my parents don't want our pets to have babies. Because there would be too many and they would just think it's a hassle.

3.If there was a big change in your life such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pet(s)? I do anything I could to bring them with me. If it was absolutely impossible I would leave them with somebody I know well so I could visit them.

4.What is pet overpopulation?

Pet overpopulation is a big problem for the shelters because they find new stray kittens/puppies and some people don't want babies so they give them to the shelter.

5.How often should pets go to a veterinarian?

I'm not sure, there is probably a certain time frame but I wouldn't follow it because veterinarians are quite expensive. So I'd maybe take them every year or so.

6.Where is your area shelter or humane society?

In my town about a 15-20 minute walk from where I live.

1.If you currently have a pet how did you obtain it? If you currently do not have a pet or you wanted get another one, where would you go to get one? 4 were rescue pets , bought one and was given the rest

2.Do you think it is important that dogs and cats are spayed or neutered? Why or why not? Having them fixed is very important because people don't usually have the brains and care to have cute little fur babies...especially when they aren't cute and little any more.

3.If there was a big change in your life such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pet(s)? I wouldn't think of doing anything without all of my furry and feathered kids.. Love em all!

4.What is pet overpopulation? Pets that aren't well taken care of. Too many.

5.How often should pets go to a veterinarian? For thier shots while growing up and once a yr. after that.

6.Where is your area shelter or humane society? In the next city up north

1) We rescued our Lab mix from a shelter thinking she was a Chihuahua (the workers SWORE she wouldn't be more than 10 pounds). Boy, were we surprised!

I took my aunt's cat because they got new furniture and didn't want her anymore.

2)ABSOLUTELY!!!

There are too many stray/unwanted pets right now. The easiest and best way to solve that problem is prevent their birth in the first place. The easiest and best way is spay/neuter.

Also, "fixed" pets live longer, healthier lives.

3) Bring them on the move. We've moved 3 times in 2 years with our Lab. It took extra time and effort to find places that were OK with, and for, her, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

Teach them to cope with everything else. Proper training over comes most obsticles. A baby wouldn't be a problem, the Lab loves kids and is very gentle with babies.

4) Shelters are full of dogs and cats that don't have homes. There aren't enough homes for all of them. They breed quickly and can have lots of babies in a very short time, which causes too many animals, and not enough homes.

5) As babies, dogs and cats need shots, so they need to see the vet more than an adult.

Adults need to see a vet every other year between the ages of 1 year and 7 years old. (see below for exceptions)

Between 7-10 years, they should see a vet every year.

After 10 years, until they die, they should have blood work done every 6 months to monitor their health, and any medicines they may be taking.

That doesn't include visits for flea and heartworm prevention, but you can buy that without seeing a vet.

It doesn't include emergencies either. Illness and injury can mean more trips to the vet.

6) I live about 5 minutes away from the SPCA in Sacramento. Animal control is about 5 minutes away from where I work.

4--when people do not spay or neuter their pets and shelters have to put them down ( healthy pets)

1. Dogs -- Purchased from a breeder, purchased from a breeder, received as a gift, received as a gift, received as a rescue. Cats -- Received from the pound, showed up at my house, picked up at the grocery store, received from the pound.

2. If you don't know what you are doing or the animal does not pass all of the proper tests to help protect the offspring from genetic defects, it should be spayed/neutered.

3. If I move, they come with me. If I have another baby, They will go to the pound, because I am going to KILL a certain doctor!

4. Caused by backyard breeders, idiot owners, and Holly mills.

5. Pets should go to the vet once a year for a check up, and when they are ill!

6. There is a shelter on Airport Rd, county run. One on Hwy 50, SPCA run, a humane society shelter on Cox rd, and then there is another county run shelter on Eau Galle Blvd. I know there is one more humane society, but I don't know exactly where that one is.

I have 5 dogs and 3 of them are rescues and 2 were given to me when i was younger. If i wanted another one i would look at the pound or rescue groups!

2.Do you think it is important that dogs and cats are spayed or neutered? Why or why not?

Yes and no, alot of people disagree with me but i dont care! I beleive it should be up to the owner! Unless of course they use their dogs for fighting or other purposes other then as a friendly family pet.

3.If there was a big change in your life such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pet(s)?

I would keep them all of them! They are awsome with kids and i would make it work some how or another!

4.What is pet overpopulation?

Pet overpopulation is mainly dometicated animals that have intered bad homes and have not been taken care of properley running aound mating with others like them there for increasing the population by millions every year.

5.How often should pets go to a veterinarian?

They say once a year for yearly vaccs. and check ups. Unless your pet is sick or needs medical attention

6.Where is your area shelter or humane society?

1.)My husband and I adopted our 7 month old Cairn Terrier from our local SPCA

2.) Yes, they should be spayed or neutered for many reasons, but mostly for the obvious: overpopulation and therefore homeless pets and also for medical reasons like cancers, etc.

3.) She would come with us if we were moving and when we have a baby, she will be there as well (she is great with kids).

4.) Pet overpopulation is exactly what is says: an overpopulation of pets which is mostly focused on dogs and cats. It is caused by careless breeding, accidental breeding - and basically not getting pets spayed/neutered.

5.) It depends on the type of "pet," but if it is a puppy or kitten - usually every 3 weeks to a month until they have all their shots/vaccinations. As for dogs/cats, they should go to the vet when they are sick and yearly to get updated on all their shots/vaccinations.

6.) Here in Dallas, they are everywhere. Every suburb has their own humane society or animal shelter (some no kill while others that do euthanize). Also, there are many breed-specific (i.e. German Shepherd Rescue or DFW Cocker Rescue) rescue organizations and places like the SPCA where we adopted our dog.

Hope this helps:-)

1.If you currently have a pet how did you obtain it? If you currently do not have a pet or you wanted get another one, where would you go to get one?

I have 7 pets, one dog from a local litter, 1 dog a stray I adopted, 1 dog from a friend who could no longer care for him. 3 of my cats were rescued by me as strays, 1 cat I got from my friend. If I wanted another one, which I dont, I would go to the shelter/rescue or just rescue one myself, there are enough on the side of the road.

2.Do you think it is important that dogs and cats are spayed or neutered? Why or why not? Yes because then I wouldnt have to keep rescuing them off the side of the road, and leaving the ones I cant save.. too many pets and not enough people who care to give them good homes.

3.If there was a big change in your life such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pet(s)? Nothing they are permanent family members, nothing can change that except death.

4.What is pet overpopulation? a problem we are faced with because there are too many pets and not enough homes and people just wont stop breeding more and more.

5.How often should pets go to a veterinarian? As often as people go to the doctor..

6.Where is your area shelter or humane society? over an hour away from where I live.. and they are always full.

1.) two dogs were given to me by my mother,

one dog was given to me by my brother

I got one cat from my neighbors who were moving

and another cat from the Humane Society of Southern AZ

2.)I beleive that dogs and cats that aren't breeding quality

should not be bred, but spaying and neutering should be the owners decision. If the owner can keep the pet from breeding then the have every right to keep the animal intact.

3.)No matter what I would keep my pets. Even if that meant I had to be homeless in order to keep my pets, I would sleep in a park with them. I beleive that when you get a pet, you owe it to them to do everything you possibly can to care for them properly.

4.)when the number of pets exceeds the number of people willing to care for them

5.)once a year or when they are ill

6.)in Phoenix, AZ

1.If you currently have a pet how did you obtain it? If you currently do not have a pet or you wanted get another one, where would you go to get one?

Dogs through purebred rescue.

2.Do you think it is important that dogs and cats are spayed or neutered? Why or why not?

I think it's important that dogs and cats are kept from breeding irresponsibly. Whether that means neutering or owner enforced-abstinence is up to the owner.

3.If there was a big change in your life such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pet(s)?

Take them with me? Introduce him to the baby?

4.What is pet overpopulation?

Too many pets without homes dying in shelters.

5.How often should pets go to a veterinarian?

As often as necessary. Need shots and regular care.

6.Where is your area shelter or humane society?

Ha! Thought it was at one address today but this website gave me the OLD shelter location, so I drove around looking in the wrong places.

1) I went to see a litter of Anatolian Shepherd pups and check out a breeders farm and she had bought a herd of goats from someone and the lady asked her if she wanted Bea, the Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dog that came with the goats, otherwise she was going to take her to the shelter because she was moving to the city. The breeder asked if she was spayed and was told yes, so took her and was surprised when she found Bea and her male Anatolian mating out in the pasture. So, I found my girl fell in love and took her home.

2) Absolutely, because there are already too many dogs and cats and their corresponding puppies and kittens in this world. The only people who should be breeding are those that know what they are doing and that is like 1% of the population.

3)Take her with me. She been through 2 change of addresses in the states and 2 overseas moves, if we can go through that together we can go through anything.

4)Too many pets with not enough homes for all of them. Hundreds of thousands of pets dying because people think they are disposable and other people there breeding irresposibly just to fill the demand for the next cute puppy.

5)As often as needed. I take mine at least every six months, most go yearly.

6)The closest shelter to me is about 7miles away is the Humane Society of Bexar Country.
