Survey on reporting system?

Has anyone had violations for an answer or question that actually fell into a grey area and wasn't an actual outright violation of YA rules and community guidelines?

Have you ever answered a question politely to the best of your knowledge and still received a violation notice?

Does YA need to work on their reporting system a bit better?

Survey on reporting system?
The biggest problem is that in certain sections, there are cliques and single individuals who have multiple accounts who use reporting as a means to remove the posts - and sometimes the accounts - of individuals they either don't like or disagree with. It's very frustrating and certainly not conducive to constructive discussion. But then, in certain sections, open discussion is the last thing that dominant groups there want.
Reply:I had a few unreasonable violation e-mails.One was about a question(has any one heard of such and such word?) and my reply was (I have never heard of that) When the violation mail came in it said:reason for violation.....not a question or answer!!!!!!!

I was left speechless !!!

then I posted a joke with the word sh*t ,with a star instead of the actual missing letter.Again I got a violation mail, this time no reason told for it.I am still expecting yahoo to reply as I asked a few more questions, directed to customer services.

''Reporting system '' and ''trolls'', I did not know what they were so I looked them up on the net.I used

GOOGLE

the word's best search engine as yahoo are rubbish.
Reply:Yes, I have. A couple of times. I think that all it takes is one person to object for whatever reason and bingo, the q or a is pulled. Early on, I reported two answers that were nothing more than a string of racial epithets.

I think the biggest problem is that you have no recourse. I don't think they pay any attention to your questioning of the violation. Has anyone ever gotten their q or a reinstated?

C. :)!!
Reply:Yes I have and I have also emailed the Yahoo team and asked why my question was considered a violation but really did not get a satisfactory answer .. More like a generic automated one ...

I think where there is definitely not a Clear cut line ( racism is clear overt sexual content is clear etc.. but when people ask for opinions is what I mean) ... yahoo SHOULD at least have the decency to reply on a personal basis ....

there have been times when I have answered and have known I am skating on thin ice... yet other times when I have given an honest answer .. yet somebody has reported me because my opinion differed to theirs ... Kind of sad.
Reply:I asked if anyone would kiss someone from Down Under.....violated for "adult content". Y/A's system is run by high school drop-outs who are paid minimum wage and who car-pool in Ford Escorts.
Reply:Yes. Yahoo is wrong for a lot of the violations they give!
Reply:yes to 2

Once I said a simple no to a Q dows anyone know where"..." is.

And I am sure th Qer reported me.

It was a persinal Q.

The person she was looking for answeres; and she said along with marking that Ans best: Oh where have you been; I was looking for you"

Now I could have reported that "personal".

But then, that is not me!

YA has improved since. Is not acting blindly on reporting. And if you report back, the other person may be under scutiny.

You have my sympathies. I have gone through it. I am one of the earliest members. And at one time I stayed away for months. Things were real bad when children came into YA. Looked like all they wanted were points at any cost.

I can go on and on...

But I think you have got the message.
Reply:Yes they do I am still very angry about what happened to me and it was a good answer. Even The Answer Guy gets nailed And I only Answer in a good way go figure

Live Long Live Free
Reply:Yes. I think they should actually read violation reports rather than seeming to just delete them automatically.

They suspend accounts over absurd things as well.
Reply:i've had violations for the silliest things and unwarranted as well. i'm guessing it is all computer generated, because i can not get a sraight answer from customer service, just take it with a grain of salt and move on. it doesn't matter how much we protest we are not going to get anywhere.
Reply:I think we all have had experiences like that. Yahoo need to update their reporting system BIG TIME but I dont think they will.

Thick as two bricks joined together!!!
Reply:yep i put things on the outside then continued with my question on inside and got 2 violations for that saying it wasnt a question when clearly it was just on inside
Reply:yes,i have lots of violations and most dont make sense,a few for chatting?,but maybe they could tweek up the system better. cheers :)
Reply:yeah i have been report by some ppl before but i have never reported anyone coz i am lazy.

"Does YA need to work on their reporting system a bit better?"

Yes but then they probably don't have the resources to do that. They would need to hire a fairly large group of full-time workers just to sit in front their PC all day reading the reported answers. I don't think they would want to spend money on something that reaps very little real commercial value.
Reply:I lost about 20 points one day and I didn't receive any violation notices whatsoever. I have no idea what questions/answers they were.

There ought to be a peer-moderator on this site. An actual person that knows what happens in each category. The peer moderators can be chosen from the top answerers in each category and maybe rotated ever so often. To be fair, the moderator wouldn't be able to answer questions but would still be able to ask them. The moderator would say "post off topic or breaks community guidelines" for minor offenses. And for hate speech and threats there would be violations and a loss of points. Participants would still be able to report violations but they would be routed to the moderator. If the moderator viewed it as a serious violation, then it would be sent on to Yahoo.

The moderator should be someone that has proven to be neutral as well. For categories such as G%26amp;WS, especially.

Obviously, nobody at Yahoo is probably even reading the questions and answers that get reported.

EDIT: There should also be a crackdown on users with multiple accounts. If it's coming from the same email address and IP address, a red flag should go up.
Reply:sounds u got one impolite feedback..as long as you maintain polite standards, i wouldn't be concerned about it..i say ya reporting is fine..no need to complicate it...
Reply:For all the sexually explicit answers I say, the answer I got reported on was one where I stated I used a drug. Lame, ain't it?
