Where can I find training as a surveyor?

I want to switch careers and become a surveyor or part of a surveying team. I never see courses at my community college offering this. Are there any online or specialty courses for this.

I would like to do this for the mining industry, or real estate. Anyone done this?

1.If you currently have a pet how did you obtain it? If you currently do not have a pet or you wanted get another one, where would you go to get one?

I purchased one of my dogs from a local pet store, the other one I found walking around my mom's neighborhood all dirty and cold and kept him.

2.Do you think it is important that dogs and cats are spayed or neutered? Why or why not?

Yes, to control the population and prevent strays.

3.If there was a big change in your life such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pet(s)?

Make it work. If i absolutely could not keep my pets I would give them to my mother-in-law who would love them and keep them forever.

4.What is pet overpopulation?

There are not enough homes for all the pets out there. Lots of animals are euthanized every day because shelters are too full. Instead of adopting the animals already available who need homes people would rather pay a breeder or pet store for the exact dog or cat they want.

5.How often should pets go to a veterinarian?

probably every 6 months for a dog because of their heart worm prevention. I would say every year at the least just like people.

6.Where is your area shelter or humane society?

The closest one is in Jonesboro, AR ( about 35 min from me)

Please answer the following questions honestly and completely.

1.If you currently have a pet how did you obtain it? If you currently do not have a pet or you wanted get another one, where would you go to get one?

I obtained my dog from a friend whose dog had puppies.

2.Do you think it is important that dogs and cats are spayed or neutered? Why or why not?

I do think it is important to spay or neuter your animals because there are so many unwanted animal pregnancies that happen by accident. This is why I obtained my dog from someone who had been foolish and had not spayed their pet. Newborn animals are sometimes killed or shoved into overflowing animal shelters all because of this issue.

3.If there was a big change in your life such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pet(s)?

I would keep or take my dog along with me. My dog is the best and I would never send her anywhere other than my side.

4.What is pet overpopulation?

When unwanted animal pregnancies happen and people shove the newborns into an animal shelter as soon as they can. At least that was how I percieved it.

5.How often should pets go to a veterinarian?

I take my dog every six months for a check up, and immeadiately if I think anything could be wrong.

It is located in a quiet area on the borders of my town.

2 x dogs - From work, worked as animal tech in pet store

1 x cat - MIL was allergic to it, I took it

1 x cat - woman abandoned him at my work when he was 2 years old

1 x bearded dragon - bought her at reptile%26amp;aquarium speciality store

5 x leopard gecko - kijiji for free

6 x aquariums - livestock from aquarium speciality stores, other hobbyists and aquarium society auctions

2.Do you think it is important that dogs and cats are spayed or neutered? Why or why not?

Unless you are a registered breeder, I think you should have to have this done by law. I worked in a pet store and had a hell of a time keeping "milled" animals out of the shop and finding homes for abandoned ones. I've seen to many animals die because of idiotic people and frequently was the one to be with puppies and kittens at the vet when we put them down because some moron "dropped them off" by leaving a box outside the door when they were beyond help....

3.If there was a big change in your life such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pet(s)? In the past 9 months I have moved 3000 kms and had a baby, I still have all my animals. The only thing that I did not move with were my salt water fish and my breeding bettas as I could not ensure their survival in the move.

4.What is pet overpopulation?

Pet overpopulation is the abundance of animals with no homes that have to be fostered or destroyed each year.

5.How often should pets go to a veterinarian?

With no troubles, yearly. Beyond that as needed. Though it does depend on the kind of animal. Most herps don't need to be seen at all, unless there is an issue. Many birds need only be seen in the first year or two.

6.Where is your area shelter or humane society? Ogden Road.

How can results of consumer surveys be accurate when the multiple choice ans. don't apply in every situation?

I find surveys (by phone or online) confusing when the multiple choice answers often do not apply to me, and there is no option to pick "Other" and specify the correct information. Online surveys will not proceed to the next Q until the previous Q is answered. Does the sponsor wish me to choose a wrong answer by default if none of the choices apply to me, and if so, how accurate will the results of the survey be?

I don't mind answering Q's if it will help create better products or services, but I wonder if it's a waste of my time, the way many surveys are set up. I'd be interested in hearing feedback from the business community.

How can results of consumer surveys be accurate when the multiple choice ans. don't apply in every situation?
Surveys exclude "Other" because of a propensity to select it if the choice is foggy for you the surveyed. Forcing you to pick, forces you think and give them the information they need.
Reply:Surveys normally have a margin of error that they publish for situations like this.

Hardin CO Tennessee what kind of cost will I be looking at in getting started

as far as water, sewage, electriclty, getting the land surveyed.

Starting up a community of log cabins 28 lots have backers for land?
You should have know what the infrastructure would cost before you got started. It could run in the millions. What are you thinking. The survey alone could run $10,000 on 52 acres and breaking out 28 home sites and having each recorde in the court house. This is just crazy! Why would you start something with out knowing your numbers. I live in Tennessee and home sites can be very expensive depending on the land and how you want this community laid out.
Reply:I'd say probably about 3-6 million depending on how close you are to source for all those things and how fancy the systems you want are.

live in a condo community 61 homes and we only have 2 miles worth of one way road on 32 acres it cost 979thousand to pave and cost 800 thousand to have us all connected to the sewage system and alot for electricity too

There are lots of them, usually known as CMS. You can use DotNetNuke, Drupal, PostNuke, Joomla, Mambo, etc.

There is a website that allows you to test-drive many CMS. Try http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php for more information.

From what you are saying I'd suggest phpbb and gallery2 for a forum and a photo gallery. Gallery2 has some integration plugins for phpbb to connect them together. That'll cover the gallery, polls, login, forum, etc.

If you are totally new you might want to consider a host like DreamHost. They have one click installs and one click upgrades, so it makes it very easy to get started. One of the top reasons for sites getting hacked is outdated scripts with vulnerabilities. I love the one click upgrades =P

Past Life Memories, a Serious Survey?

I would very much appreciate Answers community's help in a quick 'rule of thumb' survey of how many people here have had some kind of 'memory' of what could possibly be construed as a 'Past Life' or even some 'Other Life', a simple yes or no would be sufficient, although details would be very interesting, and might even help others to identify if they have had the same or similar experiences.

Past Life Memories, a Serious Survey?
Yes. I always have moments of recollection. Since I was a child I've had an affinity for Hollywood during the 30's %26amp; early 40's. I use to dream about it alot when I was 4-7 years old. Kids don't dream about old Hollywood in detail especially when they had never been there. I was born in '74. My memories are working for a studio, a big yellow convertible car, long windy roads, cool moist nights. I often times feel compelled that I died on a set? I still am drawn to Hollywood. Although it definately does not have the charm that I remember.

Also have vague recollections of countrysides in Europe .. more Southern France, border of Italy. Never been there though.

When I was 12-15, I would have these indepth memories of things to come. It totally contradicts my existence .. except that these memories are so vivid. It used to freak me out.

I don't usually talk about this with anyone.
Reply:Have you ever looked at pic's of, ( for instance) Europe in the 17th century, and feel like you know the area and you've been there before? Sorta like a Dejavu thing. I've experienced this for years, so could be a past life, my unconscious is trying to remember.
Reply:I know for a fact I have had 3 past lives and when I was a kid, I used to have "visions" of a midieval pedulum swinging above my head, it felt real and it scared me to the point I wouldn't be able to rest peacefully for days and it turned out I was killed by a pedulum in one life. I have had encounters of all kinds and even met other reincarnated people from my past lives
Reply:Long story short, I'm convinced I lived out west somewhere in the late 1800's.

Another long story short; my daughter is a reincarnated hippie. Her soul chose me because she knew I'd let her be who she is.
Reply:No, I don't clearly remember any past life experiences....but I do often experience Deja vu. When it happens, it's very surreal.
Reply:yes. All I have to do is get drunk and I can remember all sorts of things
Reply:What an interesting topic, and you got some great answers. I Often when I pass pine trees bordering a green field I get an overwhelming feeling. It's a good, familier feeling. Lot's of deja vu, but I know that's a brain thing. I've also had "visions" if you will....most recently I had a plane crash scene pop into my head, and a plane crashed yesterday or two days ago. I've also had several dreams about people I know dying, and they do. Granted they're elderly, but it always happens that they die the next day.
Reply:My daughter was 3 when she told me she used to wear skates and go to cars and give people food. This was in l983 - so it wasn't like we saw carhops on every corner to give her the idea and I don't even know how to skate. I really think she is an old soul.
Reply:the only intense recall ive had was when i took a blotter of acid and felt i was crawling instead of walking time seemed a passing moment....and life seemed very fragile breathing was an intense experience but no recall of a past life just a glimpse of a somewhat vague future but for this lifetime .that glimpse was quite accurate as i look back 20 years but i guess i would need another hit of acid to jump another 20 years in the future
Reply:Yes and I had a regression, it was quite interesting.
Reply:good memory
Reply:no comment
Reply:I thought Captain america was dead
Reply:YES...
Reply:nope but i wish i'd love to know....SO INTERESTING!
Reply:No, but that would be cool.
Reply:No, but I have definitely have had DeJaVu experiences. Really Freaky. It kind of makes you wonder if your life is already planned out for you and there is nothing you can do about it.

How do i get rid of this computer virus?

How would you do this binomial distribution problem. I really dont get it.?

In a recent survey, 80% of the community favored building a police substation in their neighborhood. If 15 citizens are chosen, find the probability that exactly 10 of them favor the building of the police substation.

How would you do this binomial distribution problem. I really dont get it.?
For this problem, use the Binomial Probability Formula:

P(N) = N! / [k! * (N - k)!] * p^k * q^(N - k)

where:

N = Number of opportunities for event x to occur (15)

k = Number of times that event x should happen (10)

p = Probability of a success (.8)

q = Probability of failure (.2)

! = Factorial

P(k) = N! / [k! * (N - k)!] * p^k * q^(N - k)

P(10) = 15! / [10! * (15 - 10)!] * (.8)^10 * (.2)^(15 - 10)

P(10) = .1031822943191 or 10.32%

Yeah, the math gets really messy,

but you can use an online Binomial Probability Calculator:

http://faculty.vassar.edu/lowry/ch5apx.h...

Or you can do it on your TI-83/84 Calculator:

Good luck in your studies,

How does lack of spellchecking affect potential answerers?

I see this happening a lot, and I am curious how it impacts the willingness of others to answer. This is not a troll question, I really am curious how this is percieved by the answering community. From my perspective it would seem to reduce the quality of answers given. So, to test this hypothesis,

If someone posts like typing out a text message, and someone else asks the same question in grammatically correct English:

1) Would you answer one, the other, both, or neither?

2) If both, would the format of the questions impact your reply, or would you simply copy and paste answers from one to the other?

Thank you for your insights!

(NOTE: this survey has NOT been cleared by any IRB, nor it is meant to be scientific)

How does lack of spellchecking affect potential answerers?
I take questions that are well worded and that have proper spelling and punctuation much more seriously.

A frustration I currently have with Answers! is that the spell check never seems to work for me when I write long answers. I really wish they would fix that!

Interesting question...I'll be interested to keep up with what people answer.

Thanks and good luck!
Reply:People can think that your'e an idiot.
Reply:You have the spell checker box to the top left above the answer box so the people with ADD or dyslexia don't have to be intimidated and can function satisfactorily in their communication here. As long as I could roughly understand the question I would answer it even with grammatical errors. Sometimes people just type too fast and are careless. Sometimes I will gently correct the person's syntax or spelling. I have to read back over what I have answered too because sometimes I will slip with the fingers or use the wrong tense or punctuation in my answer. By the way, I think the correct spelling is perceived in your question.

I am not one to copy and paste so I would answer both questions maybe with a little different wording in each.
Reply:Hi. Some questions appear to be written by someone whose first language is not English. These folks deserve a respectful, though out answer as much as anyone. I always check for how long the questioner has been in Y!A. If this is their first question AND they joined today AND the question is dumb, I don't even go for the points. My answers are not dumbed down for writing style.
Reply:1) Both - same 2 points either way

2) No effect on the answer.
Reply:What can I say? I just posted a question, and noticed that I left off a letter. I felt a little stupid, but I'm over it now.
Reply:Definitely. If they're too lazy to check their spelling and grammar, why should I bother to read the question?

1) I'd answer the one that was done in correct English

2) N/A
Reply:As long as I can read the answer and find it INTERESTING to the Subject, I will vote for it! As for spelling, its just not that important if the answer is relevant.
Reply:Stupid questions deserve stupid answers...
Reply:Maybe you should not portrait yourself as such a polished

shoeshiner. Sometimes of the cuff remarks, are amusing and enjoyable, regardless of the correctness of their spelling.Especially when it comes down to the origin of their place of birth. If u no wat i mean.

Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati
Reply:1.) I'd answer the one that's grammatically correct.

2.) I always answer with the right tenses, etc. My spelling might be off on some long words, but I just prefer to write properly, with capital letters where they should be, etc.

Of course, I'm a writer and I read a lot, so my language and correctness is a big thing to me, mainly.
Reply:Many times I stop myself from answering a question that has bad grammar or many spelling errors because I am not sure that the person will be able to understand an articulate answer. The poor spelling really tends to make one think that the person asking the question is not particularly educated.
Reply:I know better than to hope for grammatically correct English at all times. Or for spell-checked text. But some questions are so poorly worded as to be unintelligible. And the spelling is so far out there are an endless number of possibilities to what the subject of the question is.

A good example is a young woman who said she had been seeing some eal and wanted to know about letting her ex-boyfriend know about it. I'm not sure if she was seeing a seal, and eel, or someone else. All three were interesting possibilities.

I don't cut and paste EVER and get very annoyed by those people who import material from somewhere, that goes on for screen after screen.

This response has NOT been cleared by any IRB and is not meant to be scientific.
Reply:Not stopping to check their spelling allows them to get their stupidity out that much faster.
Reply:I would essentially send the same message to both.

I might, however, make a snide remark about the misspellings to the shorthand or hip version - but only if it is intentionally misspelled (ie: wot for what, wuz for was, da for the, etc)
Reply:1. If someone asks what appears to be a serious question, I will try to give a sensible answer and ignore their atrocious spelling and grammar.

2. If someone asks a stupid question and, in addition, displays atrocious spelling and grammar, I will give a sarcastic answer. (Actually I like to give sarcastic answers to stupid questions even if they are spelled correctly, but that type of stupid question rarely appears.)

3. If someone tries to ask a question that is essentially incomprehensible, I report it as abuse.

Science question/survey thingy?

I have a project for science class, and need to do a survey about waste disposal. heres the question:

What do you think is the best way for a community to dispose of waste? Where will the waste end up?

thanks for answering my survey!

Science question/survey thingy?
Well, it really depends on the type of waste, the environment type of the community, and how the community already deals with waste.

I, however, think that everything that can be recycled, and re-used SHOULD be recycled and reused. Of course, most things cannot be. Landfills are often where most of human waste goes, unless you're talking about body waste. THAT is sent to a filtering location, of course, and the waste is put into its own type of landfill.

Normal landfills, though, often are locations where waste is buried, in hopes of decomposing naturally. But some waste just doesn't decompose, such as a fry from McDonalds, for instance (lol). But the waste that does, gets recycled back into the environment.

Waste such as litter, the kind that does not get recycled, often lays on streets, forest floors, and other locations. This eventually, if built up, will poison the environment and pollute the air, water, soil, and many other natural substances. Non-decomposing materialin landfills often does this as well.

So really, it's all about the type of waste! But in general, most waste should not be disposed, but we have no other choice. Sometimes landfills are the sad but true, truth.
Reply:bring it up to a designated area in space, like the moon, so it doesnt take up our land and cause issues with the smells
Reply:The best method to dispose of waste is to recycle it.Most of our daily disposal can be recycled such as plastic, paper, glass etc.Other waste can be used as manure in the fields, such as leaves, grass, etc.
Reply:I think the dumps are fine for biodegradable stuff cuz it'll all eventually turn into dirt and basic elements again.

Did having children change your relationship for better or worse?

Hi answer community! im doing a relationship survey and would apreciate it if you answer this! (i apologize and understand if you find it too personal/offensive) thanx*

Did having children change your relationship for better or worse?
Much better! However you MUST be certain your partner is your life partner and you discuss children years before having them.
Reply:For the better. Although we had less time to go out and spend time together just with each other, we experienced a deepening of our love and trust for each other as we witnessed a new side to each other.
Reply:it changed for the better. our children are our inspiration, they are the reason why we are working hard because we want them to have a better future. They are our everything. Children are the strongest bond in a relationship
Reply:We was extremely strong before we had twins.

We still are close but found it hard just after the boys where born and went to split. He packed his bags and i cried.

Two years later, i am more in love with him than ever. We are trying for baby number 3!
Reply:having a child brought us closer as you both get to watch over and look after something that you created together. it is an extremely rewarding thing
Reply:for better, although the first three/four months got a bit strained at times
Reply:It changed our relationship as priorities have changed, I would say all in all in some aspects it changed it for the better but in other aspects it has changed for the worse. Hope this helps.
Reply:Your relation ship is better when you have children. But i feel the responsibility to both becomes high and at the end of it, to make time for each other is much less than what you could give previously. But still you love each other so much and work towards a happy family.

How do I find a mini-grant for academic research?

I am a grad student and I am looking to do a small research project that requires very, VERY small funding, like $500 so I can present the findings at a conference. My college only provides mini grants for dissertation or master's thesis research, and this definitely isn't that. Any guidance on where I can turn? The research is community based and rooted in sociology; it involves focus groups and a survey on the topic of generational memory, as to what individuals may have learned from parents and grandparents about a significant event in local history (Baltimore Riots of 1968). Thanks in advance!

I am a university Professor.

Sorry to be so blunt but, forget it. You have no chance of anyone giving you any money for something like this.

Who here has died and come back whether on the operating table or otherwise? Can you describe your experience?

I've heard it from my uncle, now I want to here it from the Yahoo! Answers community. Please only say the truth - whether its you or someone you know. This is a partially scientific survey - there aren't alot of people to which this has happened, yet if you can describe yours or someone you know's experience, then it would be great.

Who here has died and come back whether on the operating table or otherwise? Can you describe your experience?
i don't know if this is a near-death experience..

i had a boyfriend and we had a big fight that he grabbed my neck and hard-gripped it.then after that, i was just hearing the tv, but i couldn't see nor feel anything. i couldn't think clearly but i was like floating but i knew i was still there. then i woke up suddenly then i felt i peed! my bf hugged me and he told me that while i was unconscious, my tongue came out and extended like 7-8 inches! and my skin turned into light green!

Do you know the difference between a poll and a survey?

Is knowing the difference really important to the yahoo answers team?

Is it important to the P%26amp;S community that we lable our questions acording to the correct option such as, "Poll:" or "Survey:", so that the answerer knows whether or not more questions follow?

Anyone know the P%26amp;S creed (things you should never do to other P%26amp;S members)?

Do you find it hard to keep from getting stupid violations?

Is this a:

A. Poll

B. Survey

C. Both

D. Neither

Do you know the difference between a poll and a survey?
A poll is where you vote on something. A survey is to examine something. Your questions is a survey. I answer questions without insulting others or using foul language. It really isn't that difficult.

Survey for Men and Women: Which would you prefer?

For starters suppose the following:

You are married, have no kids, and the man and woman are capable of earning the same income.

Which senario would you find the most preferable, and why:

1: Man works 8 hours a day

Woman Does 4 hours of housework and 4 hours of community involvement/leasure a day

2: Woman works 8 hours a day

Man does 4 hours of housework and 4 hours of community involvement/leasure a day

3: Man and woman work 8 hours and an additional 2 hours of housework a day.

4: Man and woman work 4 hours a day, and additional 2 hours a day of housework, and 2 hours a day of leisure/community involvement.

Optional 2nd Parter:

What do you suppose the economic impact would be if everybody adopted your prefered method?

Survey for Men and Women: Which would you prefer?
# 4 Man and woman work 4 hours a day with 2 hours of house work (why it would take that long every day is beyond me, my word they could build house in that time in a couple of years) and 2 more hours doing other.

If everybody lived with in their means and didn't use credit I think this would be more ideal then what we have today both economically and or satisfaction wise.

However after they had kids I think the scenario should change.
Reply:None of them they all sound monotonous and boring.
Reply:I would prefer #3 because I am going into a field that requires 8 hours of work from me per day, and I would not want to spend the rest of my life with a man that would be okay giving up his career for the house. I would not be able to do the same for him.

I suppose that the economic impact would be something along the line of a reduction in unemployment coupled with a higher degree of difficulty in finding a preferred job. I'm not sure; it would depend on what sort of career each person had/wanted. I don't think everyone should adopt my preferred method because it would not work for every couple.
Reply:this century man and women both are same but women work more 8 office remaining hours house work and for husband . man work 8 hours office rest of the time of wife so women is more then man
Reply:#4 Work smart not hard is the answer...
Reply:I would have to say number three. I don't think everyone should do my prefered method just because everyone is different. What is right for me is not necessarily right for someone else1
Reply:#3

we worked hard for equal rights

we should work as many hours as the guy does
Reply:I prefer #4 - but only if I can add the following: We must receive the same salary as working 8 hours. LOL! Also, if it is just him and me and we have no kids, there is no need for an additional 2 hours of housework. At the most, it would be 20 minutes because we'd both be at work a good portion of the day, in my current situation we are not messy. When I leave, there are no dishes, no clutter, and a quick sweep/mop and vacuum or a load of laundry hardly takes 10 minutes. If it means we only get paid for 4 hours, then I'll go with 1 minus the 4 hours of housework. that would probably be 4 hours of volunteering + 4 hours of leisure.

I'm not sure about the economic impact of that. As it stands, I don't *have* my own income and these days that seems to be a luxury. There are lots of us at-home parents though, and I have to say when you add up the costs of daycare for young children, gas and car maintenance costs, maybe even the purchase of another vehicle, business attire, lunches, and the commute, it seems like 2 incomes end up boiling down to less than one.
Reply:I'd choose either 2 or 3.
Reply:i would pick 4 because my partner and i would be equal and we would have time left over for our child. together.
Reply:5. Woman works 8 hours a day and another 4 on housework and preparing meals. Man rests on the couch 8 hours but occasionally gets up to get a cold one from the fridge.
Reply:#5 Man and woman work 8 hours and hire a housekeeper
Reply:Way too long for my short life!
Reply:#1 I think families would be more stable this way. It may be a little bit more on the traditional side, but it worked and children grew up in a "home" with love and supervision.
Reply:My answer would change depending on how much we get paid.

If we both are earning $20 000, then i pick 3.

If we both could earn $150 000, then i pick 1. Id make enough to support the two of us, then she could handle all the housework, so I wont have to do that crap when im tired after work.

Economic impact all depends on how much we are making. If 3 occurs, and your both earing $20 000, your still broke.
Reply:I would pick 4, since your life can't be ALL about work and housework. You need some fun time as well.

I don't know much about economics in that context, so I can't answer the second part.

What's the accurate way to conduct a survey? I could use some opinions... please read?

I am currently working on a Community Involvement Project for a Woman's Studies program I'm enrolled in. Just to give you a brief idea of my initial concept, I plan to parallel Black Women in the mainstream media and their influences on Young Black Women in the community, presented in a workshop for girls ages 15 - 19. I'm thinking that I may want to include a small segment where I survey a number of young men from the community (anonymously of course) about their honest attitudes/behaviours/views about their young female counterparts - then presenting this (I expect to be, surprising) data to the young women. Having never had formal high school or whatnot training in ACCURATE, legitimate and realistic survey conducting, I was looking for some rules and pointers. So along with some help of that nature, may I also ask you:

1. How relevant is my survey? Do you think it's fair?

2. How many should I survey? Will 100 be sufficent?

Thx so much in advance! I appreciate any input :)

What's the accurate way to conduct a survey? I could use some opinions... please read?
Conducting a survey with any hope of validity is a very sophisticated process - mostly to give clear and unambiguous questions and also to avoid inherent bias in the questions and proposed responses.

Getting help from this forum is not a good idea. You really need to be working with your professor on this matter.

I think the subject of your proposal is great and would be well received.

Good luck to you - and remember, there aren't any shortcuts to doing a good job.

100 should be sufficient as long as you show how much that number represents.

You should ensure you are conducting your survey from a varety of places. to show you have covered a brad range of your target group.

What are the best survey methods for the development and retention of participants in research studies?

I'm trying to find the best method of conducting a survey for community members to be involved and informed about clinical research so that their responses can help future research and/or they will be inspired to pursue a health- related career.

What are the best survey methods for the development and retention of participants in research studies?
I worked on a research study where we used an online survey instrument and had tremendous success with it. Now, I'm liberal arts so I don't know all the specifics of programming (we had a tech guy set it up for us), but the software was very user-friendly and once we set it up and harvested the emails we wanted to use, it sent them out in mass quantities. We could log on and track changes; it even had options for creating graphs and other data organizers directly from the raw data. Of course it could perform some statistical functions that were way over my head as well!

Long story short: I think an online survey would go over very well. It's convenient for participants and easy for you as the researcher to view results.

Hope this helps!

Prohibition Community Survey?

1) What is prohibition?

2) When was prohibition in effect?

3) Do you feel we should ban the sale of alcohol?

4) Do you feel we should ban the sale of cigarettes?

5) Do you feel we should legalize marijuana?

If you could fill this out, that would be great! I need at least 10 people to fill out this survey please. =) Thank-you!

Prohibition Community Survey?
1. Prohibition is classically referred to as the period in the 1920s/30s when the distribution and transportation of alcohol across state lines was made illegal by constitutional amendment. It ended witht he passage of the 21st Amendment.

2. It was in effect, in the classical sense, from 1920 through 1933, and ended with the passage of the 21st Amendment. However, many other countries still prohibit the sale of alcohol. In the USA, individual states and jurisdictions within the individual states may still prohibit commerce in alcohol.

3. Absolutely Not.

4. Absolutely Not.

5. Absolutely YES.

2. During the 1920's

3. no

4 yes

5 yes
Reply:1. no more alcoholic beverages may be sold or purchased or made

2. it was passed during the 1900's

3. we SHOULD ban alcohol. not only does this substance cause liver problems but being drunk is also a problem because violence and accidents can happen when people are intoxicated. in the beginning, alcohol was banned, especially on Sunday's because of church. the sale of alcohol began when the government realized that they could make money by taxing alcohol.

4. cigarettes are also bad. people who smoke it have a higher risk of contracting lung cancer. people around smokers can also be affected with cancer. birth defects may happen if a smoker is around a pregnant woman. it causes people to spit all over public places. people also dump ash and the cigarette butt all over public areas.

5. don't legalize Marijuana. although it has medicinal purposes to relieve pain, the effects of marijuana is still not good to the person smoking it. and a lot of people are illegally overdosing on the drug anyway.
Reply:1. In an historical sense, it is the ban of the sale of alcohol.

2. I think it was the 1920s in the United States.

3. No, I think we should just promote more education and perhaps think about drinking ages and drinking law enforcement.

4. No, again, more education. People should be free to smoke if they wish.

5. Slippery slope. Maybe, but I'm not sure if it really is a good idea. If I absolutely had to choose, then I would say yes. Mostly because it does NOT cause physical dependence and withdrawal symptoms (like cocaine, heroine, etc.)

How can you change your community through your involvement in student government? This is a survey...?

Student governments are supposed to help raise the leaders of tomorrow. If they do a good job then you might have the next president, the next senator...or not even something as big as that...maybe you'll have the next CEO of a non-profit charity....they can raise people up by letting them lead their schools...this will enhance their capabilities for "tomorrow" when they have a chance to go out and change the world.....

Help please! I have no idea what this means?

or how to read a property survey! My community handbook says I need to consult my property survey to determine setback lines (is this the same as the property lines marked out by the wooden stakes planted around the lot?) and that "fencing may NOT be erected on bermed areas of lots. i.e. no fence shall extend any higher on a berm than the 'toe' (base) of the berm". WTH? What is a berm? I am so confused!

Help please! I have no idea what this means?
A berm is a small usually long artificial hill. When house is built on a lot, the lot should be graded so that that the land slopes away from the house on all sides. The soil that is dug out is sometimes placed at the edge of a lot forming a hill if it is not actually removed from the site. Sometimes a berm is used to prevent or limit rainwater from running over a lot. If a fence is placed on top of a berm, the effective height would be obtrusive. A six foot fence on a three foot berm would be nine feet and therefore more than the neighborhood wants to see. They are saying that the fence should be put in the lower elevation part of the lot. Setback lines are the maximum line where the building can extend. Outside the setback lines are prohibited to build on.
Reply:A berm is a strip of ground along a dike or a narrow shelf, path, or ledge typically at the top or bottom of a slope or a mound or wall of earth used in landscaping.

It is important not to disturb this berm especially on a hillside as you have to consider water runoff. The stakes around the property should indicate your property line.

If you go to a lumber yard and explain your project they should be able to assist you.
Reply:the term set back relates to the townships law as to Howe close to you property line you can build,if the survey says 10foot set back that means you have to be 10 feet away from your property line with any structures.the berm is a mound of dirt like a dike along a river, can be 1foot to 100feet.they don't want you to put fencing on top of a berm, i would check on that with the local authority's.hope this helped you
Reply:Yes, the wooden stakes planted around your lot are most likely the boundary indicators. They may be painted white and have numbers on them. You should find one at each corner of your lot.

Do you think civilians should start enforcing checkpoints?

We did a survey at a local community college and I was surprised to see how many students were in favor of a "civilian-enforced" checkpoint. When asked, would you and several people in your community enforce checkpoints if needed in a given situation, 85% responded yes. In other words regular armed civilians would set up a checkpoint at the entrance of town, say there was a serial killer or an escaped convict on the loose...Just until the cops caught him, then everything would return back to normal...Do you think this would help catch more criminals?

Do you think civilians should start enforcing checkpoints?
YES. I am all in favor of it. Informed citizens are better citizens. We need to stop taking a back seat to the defense of out nation and start being in the know. Start becoming activists.
Reply:Yes, it is a very good start in establishing a police state...
Reply:civilians need to stay away from Law Enforcement activities...they will have too many axes to grind, too many pwoer hungry idiots etc...dont believe me...take a look at the next volunteer fireman meeting in your arae...how many of those morons have red lights fixed on their vehicles even though it isnt legal for them to run with them in a civilian vehicle..its a power thing....never,ever give a civilian authority over another civilian....bad ju-ju
Reply:No...it won't help a bit.

It will just spawn a lot of "off the wall" vigilante gangs.
Reply:Civilian enforced checkpoints are working wonders in Iraq.
Reply:In a lot of cities there is what is called a Cellular On Patrol. These are volunteers that are trained and monitored by the police to patrol their neighborhoods and instead of taking action, calling in crimes to the police. They get a sort of preferential treatment when they call since the operators know they are trained by the police and usually get all the info up front. Plus the operators know it isn't a BS call either.

It wouldn't take much to adapt this thought to the program. It would of course have to be unarmed and monitored by at least 2 officers. Much better than say 10 cops off the street. I like it. It could easily work.
Reply:Most people don't have a clue how to conduct a checkpoint. Good luck. The answer is no, you won't even let trained cops do it so why should citizens?
Reply:Absolutely not! Armed citizens out enforcing the law with no training? Can you say "VIGILANTEEISM?" That is a TERRIBLY BAD IDEA that will invariably result in an innocent person getting seriously hurt or killed. There are many more "Tackleberrys" out there than you'd like to believe; the absolute LAST thing I'd want to do is tell the average citizen - who knows nothing more of the law and police procedures than he has seen on "Law and Order" - that it's OK for him to go out and play cops and robbers.

Not only no, but HELL no! That's what the police are for, so let them do their job!

Community and Neighborhood Watches are great ideas because they do NOT involve enforcing the law or detaining people; all you do then is watch and report, which is great. But anything else above that....NO, NO, NO!
Reply:I think it's a great idea. Maybe you guys can sell lemonade while your out there. Lets just hope the crooks don't get smart and take a different entrance into town.

Community Attitudes to Teenage Mothers?

Thanks for your help!

Community Attitudes to Teenage Mothers?
I think society is a bunch of hypocrites, how many years ago was it that 'women' were getting married at the age of 12? If they weren't married and popping out babies by 21 they were old maids.

Anyway, I am not supporting teenage pregnancies, we have come a long way since then (as back them women were not fit to go to college) but think no human has the right to take away another's life, ever.

I am gonna take every precaution necessary to prevent either of my girls from getting pregnant before they are married and of age. But if they would, depending on their age I would give them the option of adoption or keeping the baby with minimal help from myself.

Every situation has it's ups and downs, and no teenage mothers are not a drain on the welfare system, the people who know what to say and what to do are. Are welfare system is in need of some serious reform, as it is actually designed where a mother sitting at home with her kids can actually get more help than a mother who is a full time college student (hmmm, there's some food for thought)...

there's my 2 cents.

Can anyone show me where in the TOS or Community Guidelines it's a violation to have animal avatars?

Deleted Question: SURVEY: Can you look at my photo and tell me whether I need to shave my legs again?

Question Details:

Violation Reason:Pretending to be non-human

I'm like WTF?!?

Can anyone show me where in the TOS or Community Guidelines it's a violation to have animal avatars?
Uh, oh...somebody's out to get you again, you poor little doggie. That question was asked a while ago, and somebody decided to get it deleted now...sux...has happened to me too.

I never saw anything in the TOS or CG's about not having animal avatars. There are nude, human avatars running around here, for gosh sakes!!! A cute pup like you should be a welcome sight to Yahoo users and staff!

I also never saw a violation reason of 'pretending to be non-human' either. Obviously most dogs can't type very well...nor can they spell very well. I'm sorry this happened, and the person(s) who reported it were the non-human ones!!!
Reply:Lmao!! That's great,, Yahoo! just make it up as they go along...

at least you got a reason for your violation,.... i never get a reason... =(
Reply:I agree.

i was suspended on 2/13 because of "content' violation that stemmed from "pretending to be non-human"

The question: "Which do you prefer, boobies or butt?"

The reply: "As much as I try to treat the woman as a person, I find myself drawn to her boobies. I can;t help it; I'm a male chauvinist pig. Oink, oink."

That 'oink, oink' sustained a violation of 'pretending to be non-human', which rolled into the 'content violation'.

The TOS and CG are delightfully vague enough to allow folks like you and me to get sucked into this mess.
Reply:Pretending to be NON HUMAN, haha! I would love to have more non humans in this forum, go for it, girl!
Reply:Here's the reason why your question got deleted:

Participating as anything non-human is also not allowed. For example, using an avatar of a couch with a nickname of "couch", and asking questions like "Why do people like to sit on me?"

I hope this will answer your question.
Reply:Good grief as far as I know that isn't a rule, the avatars only have to be proper.
Reply:I'm with you WTF? I see nothing wrong with what you asked, it didn't offend anybody, at least it shouldn't have. I don't know what's wrong with the people on here now days, you can't say jack $***** without some moron reporting you.
Reply:It's not against the guidelines to have something non-human as an avatar. However, you can't post from the viewpoint of your avatar. Here is the help page.

What is the process for designing a social networking website?

I'm a grad student and two professors have approached me about being the project lead on developing a social-network platform. They're wanting to use it to create survey's via a collaborative community; and I'm curious if anyone knows any best practices for developing such a site, and the time/cost factors that goes into it. I've started looking into development via a LAMP platform, and think that we will use dedicated servers at first. Could anyone recommend starting points, perhaps based on own research or experience? Thanks!

What is the process for designing a social networking website?
Hi! I have designed such a website in my college days.

The first step is to decide on the database schema - number of tables, relations, where to store messages, how to optimize accessing them, etc. because a lot of users are going to use daily.

- make calculations how many users u are expecting.

- how many messages will they be sending everyday

- how to store these messages, relations for storing friends lists etc.

After databse, give emphasis on menu(navigation). If u use orkut, myspace etc, u know which are the most used links. Put such links on every page on most visible side. like horizontal top OR vertical left. They should be more visible.

Then decide on the programming language. I used ASP.NET. Use any of them. It doesnt matter.

Again, put emphasis on SQL queries to optimize them. Because in these site, data increases significantly. Wrong queries can delay the whole process.

The graphics should be spicy and lesser in size. Make use of same graphics everywhere to speed loading time.

i guess u now need to see some such sites on net and start with the steps above.

Best of Luck.

Nonsensical survey: are convenience stores or lawn mowers going to be blamed for humanities demise?

Convenience stores because we don't give a sh*t about things as long as we have something from a cenvenience store to keep us comfortable. Thus less civic and community stuff happens.

Or lawn mowers because they give off much more CO2 than cars and lawn mowers are even more unnecessary than cars. Thus global warming (climate change).

(Both is the preferred answer but i want your unique answer.)

Nonsensical survey: are convenience stores or lawn mowers going to be blamed for humanities demise?
lawnmower rentals at convenience stores.
Reply:No, I think Air Condition. It's every were.

They also make people lazy, and most people avoid the heat, working, perspiration and weight lose.

And since most Americans are use to Air Condition they don't to work outside. Thus, creating Jobs Americans are to spoiled to do.

Since they don't do the Jobs A/C is also a factor in the the cause of Illegal Immigration, (and as they work on the yards they use lawnmowers).

Thus, A/C also is responsible for obesity in America. Houston was said to be one of the most Obese cities in the Nation and they use a lot of A/C.

Because of A/C and obesity is then also a major factor in causing diabetes.

A/C is also helping create the whole in the Ozone layer.

So we can see that A/C is also the cause of Global Warming.

And causing the Polar Ice caps to melt.

The more we use it the more Energy, Fuel, we use to power our Houses and cars. Thus, giving us the need for more oil, and leading to The War in Iraq.

I hope I summed it up for you.
Reply:Lawnmowers are completely to blame for the destruction of humankind. Researchers have found that regular lawn mowing with gas, electric and solar-powered lawnmowers contributes not only to global warming, but to cancer, obesity, and alcoholism.

After using a lawnmower, the operator is 100 times more likely to consume beer and invite friends over for a BBQ. The 15 guests who come to dinner get there by driving in their cars, contributing to global warming. The BBQ is fueled using charcoal, which produces creosote when burned, a powerful carcinogen. Food that is BBQ'd which contains nitritates (such as bacon) further create carcinogens when burned on the grill.

The steaks for dinner came from large herds of beef cattle who emit poisonous methane gas in their flatulence which depletes the ozone layer. The BBQ also increases ambient temperature inducing the need for refrigerated beer. Freon, used in most refrigerator units is known to leak and even further deplete the ozone layer. When the beer runs out, co2 emitting gas powered vehicles are use to drive to the store to get more.

And, everyone overeats at a BBQ, resulting in obesity.

Yup. It's the lawnmower.
Reply:Neither of the above. I think one of the real culprits is the human tendency NOT TO THINK, but to rely on stereotypes, gossip and factoids, or false facts, when making decisions.

"Human beings need to think more about killing" is one quote from the movie THE FOG OF WAR that illustrates my point.

Robert McNamara was a believer in control accounting... a mathematical way to analyze and evaluate systems...and was plucked from success at the Ford Motor Company to become President John Kennedy's Secretary of Defense. His unique approach to management guided the U.S. involvement in Vietnam. Three decades later, McNamara wrote a book that was seen as a kind of apology for the disasters of Vietnam. But filmmaker Errol Morris was convinced that McNamara still had something more to say. He persuaded McNamara to sit down for a series of interviews that became a documentary. In it, McNamara reviews the way governments and leaders make decisions, and gives them a failing grade. The film is a must-see for anyone concerned about the future of the planet.
Reply:i think its going to be the greeters at wallmart. they dont give a **** about anything cause they dont have to, that in turn makes everyone who walks thru those doors not give a **** either, so they will go and buy the biggest lawnmower they can find. why? because they dont give a ****. they are allways eating junk food which will eventually turn into methane gas, hence, global warming
