I want to create a website for my community. Is there any readymade package available which i can use?

I wanna create a website for my community with some info, picture gallery, polls/survey, login/authentication details... if possible scrap books, forums also can be added.


Is there any package available, so that i can just use them as templates and start building my site.. especially i want for the login and polling part.





I dont want to use public ones like orkut or so... want to host it seperately with my own domain..

There are lots of them, usually known as CMS. You can use DotNetNuke, Drupal, PostNuke, Joomla, Mambo, etc.

Reply:You'd probably want to use some sort of CMS (Content Management System). The best thing to do is figure out what the focus of the community will be and start there.





From what you are saying I'd suggest phpbb and gallery2 for a forum and a photo gallery. Gallery2 has some integration plugins for phpbb to connect them together. That'll cover the gallery, polls, login, forum, etc.





If you are totally new you might want to consider a host like DreamHost. They have one click installs and one click upgrades, so it makes it very easy to get started. One of the top reasons for sites getting hacked is outdated scripts with vulnerabilities. I love the one click upgrades =P
