Survey: Is the question "Do you have a smoke alarm in you house?" a legitimate survey question?

I think it is. But apparently trolls don't. Because this question was reported by the "Yahoo!Answers community" - WITH NO RESON given why it was a violation.





Conclusion ? I'm definitely being targetted by trolls purely out of spite.

Yes this IS a valid Question


Yes I do have a Smoke Alarm , it is now COMPULSORY in the State of New South Wales, Australia (where I live,Sydney is the State Capital by the way )


Because


Two years ago 5 little girls who were having a "Sleep-over" were burnt to death (or suffered smoke inhalation, I think two of thr girls died and the other three recovered, or vice versa)


because the house they were in didn't have a Smoke Alarm.





So the NSW state Government have now passed legislationto make it compulsory that every house has a Smoke Alarm





This IS a valid question , you don't half get some trolls on Yahoo ,

Reply:Honestly, I don't think it's a valid polling question. I wouldn't report it as a violation personally, because it's "almost valid". But, no, it's not a valid question.





Valid survey questions are actual searches for information and opinions. For example, "what do you think Obama should do to respond to Hillary's claim that ... ". This seeks out opinions and argument that helps the questioner to form his own answer to the question.





But a question that only gets a yes/no answer it basically just trolling for funny or interesting replies. A bunch of one-word "yes" or "no" answers doesn't really contribute anything meaningful.





I don't see the point of asking that question, other than trying to collect witty replies. That's not a permitted use.
