If I may I would like to expand on some of your questions and my answers.

1. Learning how to operate a computer is certainly with in the capabilities of most people including seniors. I am a bit of an anomaly in that I began servicing and maintain computers when they still weighed 275 tons and had 55,000 vacuum tubes in them. We troubleshot and repaired to the component level. The level of maintenance we performed would require an electron microscope and a robot to accomplish in today's world. Not to mention it would be ridiculously expensive.

2. Learning to use Email, like learning to use a computer is within the grasp of most seniors. Its main advantages, as I see it, are cost and immediacy. Once established your email account doesn't cost anything per use to use. It is also much faster than snail mail. In addition if the person you are trying to reach is on line one can enter into an exchange that is as close to real time as most people would ever need.

3. I don't have a cell phone. I can honestly say I have never had a conversation over a cell phone and I only carried one once and that was to take it to my wife who had forgotten it. I just don't see the need for every 12 year old to have a blue tooth device hanging on their head. The universal acceptance has brought costs down and that's a good thing for those who really do need them it's just that I am no were near important enough to have one. I have wireless phones at home. They amount to about a 150 foot leash; I don't want one any longer than that. I think like anything else they are becoming too complex. Any device that tries to be ALL things for ALL people becomes increasingly complex as both of those "ALLs" become larger.

4. Text messaging is something I consider a foolish toy. With all the bells and whistle already on a cell phone why is this necessary? Can't you talk direct? OK so you can't, leave a voice mail. I guess if a person was a sniper and required absolute silence it might be nice or if one had been kidnapped and was texting behind their back it could be of value but beyond that, I can't see any sense in it. And, what self respecting kidnapper would leave the victim with their cell phone.

5. Internet access is certainly desirable. I can't say it is an absolute need but it has become the way to contact the outside world. For good or bad it is becoming increasingly necessary to be on line.

6. The latest and greatest technology is nice but being on the cutting edge is expensive. If you are satisfied with the last generation there is no need to buy more than that. Example: I replaced my system with a Duo Core in December. I knew of the Quad Core but I chose to save the money. The next system will probably come about time we see an Octo Core and I will be looking at the Quad. It could be as long as it takes to get the Hexidec Core but I will still be looking a generation backward.

7. The one thing I am sure of is that entertainment (spell that GAMES) drives the technology. The ever increasing demand for better and better graphics does more than any bank or other corporation's demand for more number crunching. The only possible exception is the CAD field but even then I thing the gamesters are leading the pack.

8. Technology is a tool; nothing more and nothing less. I can use a shovel to dig a moat around a castle for protection or I can use it as a club to kill my neighbor. The user determines the use and that will always be true.

9. Advancing technology is a black-hole. No man knows what is in that hole. It will only be revealed when man ventures in and takes a look. It could be a cure for cancer, a vortex to other universes, light speed and beyond. There is simply no way to know; we have to enter that hole, it is the nature of man.

10. In my opinion technology is making things (information and data) more readily available to those who need it. Technology is a micro-managers dream. In a company of 10,000 every key stroke on every computer can be observed. Your question is about "easier", my concern is about privacy.
